Waterton Scrambling

Grizzly Bear in Drywood.

Went climbing in drywood on Saturday, was an awsome day. It started raining in the afternoon so we went and played on the routes under the overhang to stay dry. On the way out we saw what looked like a pretty big grizzly on the slope above where you cut through the trees on the trail coming up from the well site. He didn't seem to concerned with us and just wandered around on the slope while we dashed truogh the trees. Just thought anyone going in there should know that there is a bear in the area.

Also wondering how many people have had close calls with the boulder below Macduff. I blew the third clip and came down and scraped my side on the sharp edge. It would have been way more serious if there had been another couple inches of rope out. My climbing partner also had a close call on this boulder a couple of years ago. Would anbody object to someone taking a hammer up there and knocking some of the sharp edges off. I guess the alternative would be taking some bouldering pads in with you and padding it.

Hi Brett, instead of alltering the boulder, what about adding a bolt or piece of gear to reduce the fall, just an idea. I cant remember the boulder you are talking about.

Yeah the stretch to that bolt is a bit much. I would have preferred if it was about a foot closer to the previous one. However it was hard to find some solid rock right where I wanted it. After climbing the route a while after bolting it though, I figure there is a decent spot that still lets you clip it. I would be all in favor of moving the bolt about a foot earlier. That clip is a bit dangerous. Any comments?

Well, i think before anybody does anything Chris G. should be checked with because i believe he put the route up. You never know, he might of lined the third bolt up with that rock just to see who can bounce the highest. So far Brett wins.....

I just uploaded the picture I had of the route. I think there is some solid rock about a foot above my fingers. The current bolt is around to the right. Of course whoever end up moving things should look for themselves. I almost placed it in the corner above my hands in the picture, but thought, incorrectly, that it would be too hard to clip.

By the way, who is that guy holding down the boulder at the base?

You sound just like someone I had to deal with last year...

A mysterious schizophrenic who posts comments about himself from the same IP using different pseudonyms. You don't have any projects that have been half done for 4 or 5 years do you?

I have several unfinished projects, their unnamed in a secret location and their MINE, do not touch, do not name and do not climb!!! If you find them, ignore them and pretend they are not there and definitely do not put them in any guide books.....

It is not possible to rap from "scrambled eves" anymore. The trees mentioned in the guide book no longer exist, or the small dead ones we saw are not sound enough to rap off. Once the climbing is over it is a long slog up to the ridge.
