I have wanted to buy back country gear for a year more seriously (10 yrs dreaming) and have been waffling all winter on they type of gear i wanted. It was the skier in me that won. Ive been on sticks since i was 2 and only with axes for 4 year. As it turns out, i went to alpenland on tuesday to check out their year end sale and they Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8983300.post-1143144718652047072006-03-23T13:11:00.000-07:002006-03-23T13:11:00.000-07:00Holy Cow!!! It took me about 4 months to decide on the Crossbows as my backcountry ski and about 6 months to pick the new Bandit B3 (orange ones) as my downhill ski.

So, you can't leave us hanging... what did you end up getting? As for boots, I'm a big fan of Scarpa, but they either fit your feet really well, or they REALLY don'tAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8983300.post-1143139512762450922006-03-23T11:45:00.000-07:002006-03-23T11:45:00.000-07:00i took the plunge and bought the ski's binding & s...i took the plunge and bought the ski's binding & skins, now all i need to do is by boots. thanks for the info.... cheers.

Posted by scott harmsAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8983300.post-1143060700451857532006-03-22T13:51:00.000-07:002006-03-22T13:51:00.000-07:00well it think it's settled then. I have been checking out last years salomon 1080 or this years 1080 gun, also the rossi bc scratch or the b3/4, both can be skied in the backcountry and crunch bumps on the hill. Probably will outfit them with the fritschi freerides. I'm still undecided about boots, the garmont g or adrenaline, or the scarpa denali.

Any other suggestions?

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8983300.post-1143031270728713972006-03-22T05:41:00.000-07:002006-03-22T05:41:00.000-07:00Scott - I agree with Blair. Now it feels strange to climb ice in my Vegas. I've actually been known to wear my AT boots for quick and dirty.... no skis, just hiked up in my AT boots.

AT Boots are also great for kicking steps up a big snow/ice face. <BR/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8983300.post-1142991722491854882006-03-21T18:42:00.000-07:002006-03-21T18:42:00.000-07:00Scott, i'd go full AT gear if you can afford it. J...Scott, i'd go full AT gear if you can afford it. Just make sure that your ski boots will take crampons. It's the most versatile of all the gear but it's also the most expensive. I can ski at the hill, climb ice, do long tours, shred powder and bash scree with my AT gear. It's not great for everything but still good for most. If you don't want to go that route you can get a pair of ski's and mountAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8983300.post-1142978386948632502006-03-21T14:59:00.000-07:002006-03-21T14:59:00.000-07:00If you wait to summer you can get amazing deals at...If you wait to summer you can get amazing deals at http://www.sierratradingpost.com/ You could probably pick up a couple of cheaper ski rigs really cheap. While crampon compatible outfits usually never come down in price you could pick up some tele gear cheap. I love my cheap karhu light touring and leather 3 pin boots.

Posted by chris gAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8983300.post-1142976643876689482006-03-21T14:30:00.000-07:002006-03-21T14:30:00.000-07:00I got sick for a living this weekend, and was just...I got sick for a living this weekend, and was just dying to see all that light snow.
