Chief Mountain Beta

I know a bunch of you have done Chief Mtn before. Can anybody tell me the logistics involved? Drive down Chief Mtn Highwawy, cross the border, then what? A group of us are planning to hike up the scramble route. Any info would be appreciated. Also, how long of a trip is it?

I was trying to figure where to go, but I really can't remember. I know the chief border is closed. Sorry I can't help.

All I remember is taking one of the logging style roads a bit north of the actual mountain, and then hiking up a rough trail to a small pond before cutting across the grass/scree on the north side of chief, circling around to the West ridge and then heading up scree to a chimmney/gully.

However, I know the last two years there has been a bunch of logging going on in the Canadian side. However most of this is north of the Belly river. Looking at my waterton map, it looks like at beebe flats there should be a road heading south along the Belly river. This heads to the Waterton Boundary and stops. It then goes to a small lake, Deer lake which could be the pond I remember.

http://www.libertypages.com/chris/chief.jpg has the area I am talking about.

I once asked someone at the Waterton info centre who told me you need permission from the tribe. However, this can be obtained via a pass at the Glacier NP centre.
